JSPCB order to cost CIL 12 mn tonne coal

he Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board's (JSPCB) decision to close 22 mines of Bharat Coking Coal (BCCL) may leave its parent company Coal India (CIL) with a production loss of 40,000 tonne of coal a day or 12 mtpa.The board passed the order alleging that BCCL ran these mines without proper environmental clearances.CIL produces 431 mtpa of coal,accounting for a little more than 80 per cent of India's coal production.
