he Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board's (JSPCB) decision to close 22 mines of Bharat Coking Coal (BCCL) may leave its parent company Coal India (CIL) with a production loss of 40,000 tonne of coal a day or 12 mtpa.The board passed the order alleging that BCCL ran these mines without proper environmental clearances.CIL produces 431 mtpa of coal,
accounting for a little more than 80 per cent of India's coal production. BCCL accounts for 7 per cent of CIL's production capacity of 461 mtpa.
