SC approves Lafarge mining in state

The Supreme Court permitted the French cement firm Lafarge to resume limestone mining in Meghalaya for its plant at Chhatak in Bangladesh. A special forest bench of the apex court noted that the MoEF had, in April 2010, followed all statutory procedures while granting the revised environmental and forest clearance to Lafarge for limestone mining in 116.6 hectare in Meghalaya's East Khasi hills.
