Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated India’s first inland port in Varanasi on the Ganga River. Being part of the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JVMP), the terminal is one of the first of the four inland terminals that are currently under construction on the Ganga River. At at an estimated cost of $530 mn, the project is partly funded by the Indian Government and the World Bank. The project is expected to be completed within six years.
