CIL spent over Rs 1,600 cr in three years on CSR activities

Coal India Limited (CIL) told the media that it has spent over Rs 1,600 crore on corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects in the last three years.

The mandated target for expenditure on CSR projects by CIL during the last three years was Rs 1,284 crore. But in the past three years, CIL has spent more than Rs 1,600 crore on CSR activities.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the company spent over Rs 500 crore to help fight Covid-19 nationwide.

According to CIL Director Vinay Ranjan, the public sector undertaking (PSU) is the third-largest corporate spender on CSR activities across India.

The company has spent more than 60% of its CSR budget on the health and sanitation sector, and the company has provided employment opportunities to more than 10,000 youths.

According to PSU, for mitigating the potential shortage of oxygen during the Covid-19 pandemic, CIL set up 31 oxygen plants in 28 hospitals in various parts of the country during the last fiscal.

Currently, CIL is operating its CSR activities in 34 districts across eight states in India. It accounts for over 80% of the domestic coal output.
