Uttar Pradesh, other states asked to import coal for 10% blending

Centre has reportedly asked Uttar Pradesh and other states which have thermal power plants to import coal for at least 10 per cent blending, citing a shortage of domestic supply, to ensure continuous power supply in the respective states.

The Union power ministry has asked states to import 22.049 million tonnes of coal for thermal power plants run by Gencos and 15.936 million tonnes for IPP-run power plants. The power engineers' federation, however, has reportedly questioned the directive. According to them, transportation facilities are struggling to ensure domestic coal delivery, which makes reaching the imported coal to the power plants from ports a loud question.
