Gadkari inaugurates India's first LNG facility

The country's first LNG facility plant was inaugurated in Nagpur by Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways.

Gadkari stressed the importance of alternative biofuels for agricultural diversification into the energy and power sectors during the inauguration.

The Minister said that they have devised a policy that encourages the development of pollution-free, cost-effective imports such as ethanol, bio CNG, LNG, and hydrogen fuels.

Gadkari said that the ministry is always researching alternative fuels. To avoid wasting the rice, corn, and sugar surpluses, and said that they must be used.

Gadkari said that a decision on flex engines will be made in three months, making them mandatory for automobile manufacturers, especially four-wheelers and two-wheelers.

Gadkari said that several countries, including the United States, Canada, and Brazil, already have them. The cost of the vehicle is the same whether it has a gasoline or a Flex engine, according to the minister.

Additionally, Gadkari said earlier this month that he wants to make Auli, a hill station in Uttarakhand, a popular tourist destination for visitors from around the world.

Gadkari also said at a virtual event that intends to create a landscape similar to the world-famous Davos in Switzerland between the 18 km Zojila tunnel in Ladakh and the Z-Morh tunnel in Jammu & Kashmir.

Gadkari's ministry will also ask the Union Cabinet for permission to build smart cities, townships, logistics parks, and industrial clusters alongside national highways.

Gadkari recently stated at a virtual event that the ministry's goal is to build a world-class highway network and has devised a plan to generate infra capital by monetising existing highway projects. The minister said that the goal is to build a 60,000 km world-class national highway at a rate of 40 km per day.
