Rs 13,562.2 Mn Sustainable Aviation Fuel Unit In Kakinada

A greenfield sustainable aviation fuel manufacturing unit with an investment of Rs 13,562.2 million (mn) will be established in Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh, the Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said on Saturday. The approval has been accorded to SAF One India Espicompact to set up the plant near the port city. The announcement forms part of a broader push to develop alternative fuels and related manufacturing capacity in the state. The move aligns with national and global efforts to reduce carbon intensity in transport fuels.

Pawan Kalyan made the statement while addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Police Parade Grounds after unfurling the national flag, receiving the guard of honour and inspecting the parade. The remarks were delivered as part of official ceremonial duties and did not elaborate on project timelines. Local officials indicated that site identification and preliminary clearances were under way. The speech reiterated the state government's focus on industrial investment and infrastructure readiness.

Kakinada is being developed as a green hydrogen production and research hub with multiple projects under planning and construction. A foundation has already been laid for a green ammonia and green hydrogen plant on 495 acres with an investment of Rs 130,000 million (mn), which is expected to generate employment for around 2,600 people. The combined focus on sustainable aviation fuel and green hydrogen aims to leverage local port infrastructure and feedstock availability. Local suppliers and research institutions are expected to be engaged in ancillary roles during later stages.

Authorities said the new facility would support decarbonisation efforts in aviation and strengthen regional industrial growth while offering new job opportunities. Officials added that further project details, technical partners and implementation schedules would be released as approvals progress. Stakeholders in the energy and port sectors will monitor developments for investment and logistics planning. Economic planners noted that steady policy support would be essential for timely execution.
