GPS Renewables to host CCUS-focused Boring Climate Conference in Bengaluru

Positioned as one of India’s few dedicated conventions focused on CCUS, the event comes amid growing policy momentum to accelerate deployment of carbon capture technologies in high-emitting industrial sectors. The Union Budget 2026-27 has allocated Rs 20,000 crore to advance CCUS technologies in heavy industries, aimed at supporting decarbonisation efforts in sectors such as power, steel, cement, refineries and chemicals. India already has operational pilot projects underway, including a carbon capture facility at NTPC’s Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station, with the national focus now shifting from research and pilots to large-scale implementation.

The conference will also feature several members of the High-Level Task Force constituted by the Department of Science and Technology, which is working on a phased national strategy for CCUS deployment covering technology development, regulatory frameworks and infrastructure planning.

Confirmed speakers include Dr Ashish Lele, Director, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory and Chair of the High-Level Task Force for India’s CCUS R&D roadmap; Prof. Sebastian C. Peter, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research; Prof. Vivek Polshettiwar, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research; Prof. Rajnish Kumar, Indian Institute of Technology Madras; and Prof. Chinmoy Ranjan, Indian Institute of Science.

The conference will also bring perspectives from investors and industry experts, including Dr Anjan Ray, vice chancellor and energy transition expert; Ashish Goel, co-founder at Optimist and a climate tech investor; Vishnu Rajeev, partner at Speciale Invest; and Ms Sushma Rawat, former director of exploration at ONGC.

Nipun OS, Chief Sustainability Officer, GPS Renewables, said, “The Boring Climate Conference is an effort to bring together researchers, industry leaders, investors, and policymakers to discuss some of the most complex challenges in India’s climate transition. Through this conference, we want to create a platform where different stakeholders can come together to identify key challenges, explore solutions, and focus on what it will take to move climate-positive technologies from research to real projects in India.”

The conference traces its origins to The Boring Climate Podcast, which has explored India-specific climate challenges over three seasons, focusing on bridging the gap between research and implementation.
