ElectiVa to set up 1 lakh charging points in next three years

ElectiVa, an electric vehicle (EV) charging provider, told the media that it would establish one lakh charging points across India in the coming three years, in an attempt to conquer the EV charging market as a first mover.

The idea is to have an ElectriVa charging point every 20 km, said the firm's founder Sumit Dhanuka. They are going to set up an electric charging point every three km in Delhi and at all essential areas. The same will be replicated across all metros. ElectriVa had lately acquired the contract for setting up and running 100 EV charging stations in Delhi and another 150 are in the pipeline.

The firm said the impetus rendered by the government in the budget would provide EV charging infrastructure with a tremendous drive in the nation. ElectriVa is presently among the leading independent EV charging station operators in India. The firm was installed earlier this year by New Delhi based entrepreneur Dhanuka who has a background in renewable energy.

The firm has allocated three priority areas to develop. One is the agreements being granted by municipal corporations for intra-city set-ups. The second is installing infrastructure along essential highways and associating with the national and state highway corporations. The third is rendering decentralised charging points at housing societies and RWAs. India is likely to witness a giant EV boom by 2026.

As per industry estimates, approximately 4 lakh charging stations will be needed by 2026. Dhanuka said that the firm aims for agreements from other government authorities and utilities, too.
