GAIL CMD Reviews Vijaipur Operations And Launches Floating Solar

Deepak Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India) Limited, conducted an operational review of the Vijaipur complex on April 21, 2026 to assess plant performance and supply preparedness. The visit focused on Liquefied Petroleum Gas production and the facility's role in supporting millions of households and essential services across India. The review examined plant operational efficiency, reliability and supply chain readiness including evacuation systems. Discussions addressed resilience in the face of evolving global geopolitical dynamics and the need to maintain high plant load factors.\n\nAs part of the company’s clean energy transition, Gupta inaugurated a floating solar power installation of seven point seven five Megawatt (MW) capacity and a ground mounted unit of zero point seven eight Megawatt (MW). These additions expand the renewable energy portfolio at Vijaipur and are intended to reinforce GAIL’s commitment to sustainable operations and energy security. The renewable capacity will be integrated with existing infrastructure to support LPG production and reduce the carbon intensity of operations. The measures aim to complement thermal generation and improve overall energy mix flexibility.\n\nThe visit also marked an upgrade of control systems on Solar Turbines DVPL gas turbine compressors rated at 15.3 Megawatt (MW) and 10 MMSCMD to the TurboTronics 6 platform to enhance automation and control. The upgrade is expected to improve operational efficiency and reliability, strengthen IT-OT integration and reduce emissions while supporting sustained high efficiency in LPG production. Implementation included testing and validation of the new control architecture and staff familiarisation with the revised operational protocols. Maintenance and monitoring regimes were reviewed to secure continuous performance.\n\nGAIL outlined continued emphasis on operational excellence and supply continuity, with measures to maintain uninterrupted LPG availability for consumers and critical services. Management indicated ongoing monitoring of plant load factors and contingency arrangements to address potential disruptions. The review and renewables addition form part of a broader strategy to integrate cleaner energy sources into core infrastructure while safeguarding energy supply. Further initiatives will be aligned with corporate sustainability and energy security objectives.
