KPTCL Commissions 12-km 220 kV Transmission Line in Bengaluru

Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL) has commissioned a 12-km 220 kV multi-circuit transmission line in Bengaluru, strengthening the city’s transmission network. The project was completed amid existing power lines, road traffic, urban infrastructure and restricted working space, officials said.

The line provides double loop-in loop-out connectivity to the existing 220 kV Hoody-Manyata Tech Park transmission lines from a cable terminating tower near the Bagalur Road crossing. KPTCL said the project was planned after assessing local conditions, technical feasibility, operational requirements and the availability of space in the densely populated urban area.

A portion of the available transmission alignment in the Vidyanagar area was used for constructing the multi-circuit line. The design was developed specifically for the site, taking into account existing electrical networks, roads and other urban infrastructure.

KPTCL said its engineers, technical personnel and project teams completed the work through detailed planning, safety measures and coordination between multiple divisions. The commissioning is expected to improve grid capacity and operational reliability while supporting Bengaluru’s rising electricity demand.

Karnataka Energy Minister K J George said the city’s power demand was increasing continuously and that transmission infrastructure needed to be strengthened accordingly. He said urban transmission projects required solutions based on local conditions, technical feasibility and future system requirements, and described KPTCL’s engineering response as a successful effort.

KPTCL Managing Director V Ram Prasath Manohar said the project involved unique local and technical requirements. He said the completed line demonstrated the technical capability, coordination and commitment of the corporation’s engineers and field teams.
