Mecpower Solutions, Navitas Solar Plan 5 GWh BESS Facility

Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar have collaborated to establish a 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Karjan, Gujarat. The proposed facility is expected to begin operations in the first quarter of FY2027-28, according to an announcement by Navitas Solar.

The companies said the project would support rising demand for integrated energy storage solutions across India’s renewable energy sector. The collaboration combines Mecpower Solutions’ capabilities in renewable energy project development, engineering and execution with Navitas Solar’s integrated manufacturing expertise.

The proposed facility is intended to bring together manufacturing, project deployment and system integration capabilities. The companies plan to develop scalable storage solutions for utility-scale, commercial and industrial renewable energy applications, while supporting their respective engineering, procurement and construction deployments and utility-scale projects.

BESS facilities are becoming an important part of renewable energy infrastructure because they can help manage the intermittency of solar and wind generation, improve grid stability and enable more efficient use of renewable power. The companies said the collaboration would strengthen domestic energy storage capabilities in line with India’s long-term renewable energy objectives.

Setul Shah, director of Mecpower Solutions, said the facility would strengthen the company’s position across the energy storage value chain by combining manufacturing with its engineering, procurement and construction and independent power producer businesses. He said the project was intended to support the development of more flexible and reliable renewable power systems.

Ankit Singhania, director of Navitas Solar, said domestic manufacturing would help strengthen India’s clean-energy supply chain and address the requirements of utility-scale storage projects. He added that the partnership would extend Navitas Solar’s manufacturing capabilities into energy storage and contribute to scalable solutions for India’s power sector.
