NTPC Invites EoI for 26 Per Cent Equity in Cogeneration Projects

Power generator NTPC has invited expressions of interest (EoI) from commercial and industrial (C&I) entities willing to invest 26 per cent equity in cogeneration projects. The initiative is intended to explore opportunities for developing facilities that can meet industrial requirements for steam and electricity through integrated energy supply solutions.

The proposed projects could combine coal, renewable energy and battery energy storage systems with long-term supply arrangements. Cogeneration facilities simultaneously produce electricity and useful thermal energy, such as heat or steam, from a single fuel source, allowing industries to address energy requirements through an integrated system.

NTPC said the initiative would support industries seeking greater energy security, cost optimisation and sustainability. It added that cogeneration could improve overall energy efficiency while providing reliable, economical and sustainable energy solutions tailored to diverse industrial requirements.

The company said the initiative was part of its effort to expand its energy solutions portfolio and strengthen partnerships with industries. By using its power-generation expertise and examining innovative energy supply models, NTPC aims to support industrial growth and contribute to energy efficiency, sustainability and energy transition objectives.

The state-owned company is India’s largest integrated power utility, with installed capacity of more than 91 GW and a further 35 GW under construction. It has set a target of reaching 149 GW of total capacity by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable energy sources.

NTPC’s planned capacity mix includes thermal, hydro, solar and wind power plants. Beyond power generation, the company has entered areas such as e-mobility, energy storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power and green hydrogen solutions, broadening its role in India’s evolving energy sector.
