NTPC Ramagundam to construct 100 MW solar project in phases

National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) Ramagundam has decided to phase in the commissioning of the largest floating solar power plant in the country, with a capacity of 100 megawatts, at its thermal power project, beginning with the 15-megawatt segment by the end of the month.

NTPC officials cite that they plan to commission at least 10 to 15 MW segments per month starting now.

The largest power producer invested Rs 423 crore in constructing a 100 MW solar plant on the waters of a reservoir built to meet the thermal power project's needs.

The solar panels are expected to cover 450 acres of the water holding area.

Sunil Kumar, Chief General Manager of NTPC Ramagundam and Telangana thermal power projects, mentioned that the commissioning of the floating solar project would have been completed by now if not for the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Covid 19 restrictions, according to Mr Sunil Kumar, have had an impact on both the supply of materials and the deployment of manpower.

As a result, rather than commissioning the project all at once, as was originally planned, it has been decided to commission it in phases.

The solar power plant is built as part of its 60 gigawatts (GW) renewable energy capacity by 2032.

By 2032, the company wants to cut its net energy intensity by 10% and lower its overall energy generation and supply costs.
