NTPC to Commission 10 MW 2nd phase of Gandhar Solar Power Project

The Maharatna PSU, NTPC, is set to commission the second phase of the Gandhar Solar Power Project. This project, with a total capacity of 20 MW, will see the addition of 10 MW on June 7 at 12:00 PM, as stated in a regulatory filing by NTPC.

In August 2022, NTPC successfully commissioned the first phase of the Gandhar Solar Power Project, contributing 10 MW to its overall capacity. With the full commissioning of the Gandhar Solar PV Project, NTPC's standalone installed and commercial capacity will reach an impressive 56,378 MW. Furthermore, the group's installed and commercial capacity will increase to 72,364 MW.

The Gandhar Solar PV project was developed under the CPSU Scheme Phase-II Tranche-I of MNRE. NTPC secured the project through competitive bidding facilitated by SECI in 2019, with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) being a part of the arrangement. The project was carried out by BHEL under the EPC mode and is situated within the existing NTPC Jhanor-Gandhar Gas-based power station.

NTPC is at the forefront of renewable energy development in India, with a focus on solar and wind power projects. The objective of the CPSU is to diversify energy sources and reduce the carbon footprint. Recently, NTPC Green Energy Limited signed an agreement with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (UPRVUNL) to collaboratively develop renewable energy parks, floating solar, and other solar projects in Uttar Pradesh. The company aims to add 4 to 5 GW of renewable energy annually to achieve its ambitious clean energy target.
