Panel nods setting up UID number plate with QR code: Ludhiana

The process for setting up unique number plates with QR codes is in its final stages, as members of the committee created for taking a call on the project have given it their approval.

Pardeep Sabharwal, Municipal corporation commissioner will take the final call, after which an agency will be hired to conduct the work. The MC had dumped the project of UID number plates earlier after a company failed to finish it in time. The authorities said that they would not repeat the past mistakes and the project would help the residents. The officials told the media that every property would have its QR code. Residents will be able to check their outstanding dues after scanning this code. Even the MC employees will not have to ring the bell as they can additionally check whether the house owner has cleared all the debts by scanning the code.

The earlier project could not take off as the residents were needed to pay Rs 110 for the plate. This time, the plates will be set up outside the homes by the picked company, and their cost would be added to the property tax dues. The decision on the price, however, is yet to be taken.

The mayor had created the committee to decide on the project. With its members giving their consent, the project will go to the MC commissioner for the final clearance.

If permitted, an agency will be hired for setting up the UID plates, as per an official. As per the GIS survey carried out by the MC officials, there are over 4 lakh properties in 37 blocks. The GIS survey was carried out with the help of the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC). The setting up of UID number plates was planned in 2014. But the work rolled out from Block 26 in Model Town on 23rd June 2017. The work moved at snail’s speed and just 25,000 homes were covered by the private company.
