Reliance Unveils Jamnagar Giga Energy Complex

Reliance Industries has announced rapid progress on the Dhirubhai Ambani Giga Energy Complex in Jamnagar, a facility billed as four times larger than Tesla’s Gigafactory. The announcement was made during the company’s 48th Annual General Meeting.

Executive Director Anant Ambani described the New Energy business as Reliance’s “most ambitious and transformational mission of this decade,” emphasising that it had moved from “ambition to execution.” Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani added that the venture would “set global benchmarks” and become a major growth engine for the group.

The giga complex is being built at record pace, involving over 5 million manhours of engineering, 44 million square feet of construction area, 7 lakh tonnes of steel—equivalent to 100 Eiffel Towers—and 1 lakh km of cable, enough to reach the moon and back.

Reliance aims to create the world’s most integrated New Energy ecosystem, covering solar modules, battery storage, and hydrogen production. It has already produced its first 200 MW of HJT solar modules, delivering higher efficiency and durability. The solar platform will scale up to 20 GWp, positioning it as the world’s largest single-site facility.

A battery giga factory, starting in 2026, will scale from 40 GWh to 100 GWh annually, while an electrolyser giga factory will expand to 3 GW capacity for green hydrogen production. Reliance also plans to develop one of the world’s largest single-site solar projects in Kutch, spread over 5,50,000 acres, capable of meeting 10 per cent of India’s electricity demand within a decade.

By 2032, the company targets production of 3 MMTPA of green hydrogen equivalent, along with green ammonia, e-methanol, and sustainable aviation fuel for domestic use and exports.

“Jamnagar will be the cradle of both the world’s largest Conventional Energy complex and the world’s largest New Energy complex,” Mukesh Ambani said, calling it the face of “New Reliance and New India.”

UK Sanctions Nayara Energy in Crackdown on Russian Oil

The United Kingdom has announced fresh sanctions on 90 entities, including Indian refiner Nayara Energy Limited, in its latest bid to curb Russian oil revenues and weaken President Vladimir Putin’s war funding. The sanctions, unveiled jointly by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the UK Treasury, aim to disrupt networks supporting Moscow’s crude exports amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
