Tata Power & Tata Motor collaborates to build 7 MWp solar project in Pune

Tata Power and Tata Motors will partner up to build a 7 MWp solar rooftop project at Tata Motors' passenger car production in Chikhali, Pune.

For this solar project, both the firms signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The project is estimated to generate 23 million units of power while reducing CO2 emissions by 5.23 lakh tonnes.

The company told the media that this is the equivalent of planting 8.36 lakh trees over a lifetime.

It is the third phase of the two firms' combined 17 MWp on-site solar project, of which 10 MWp has already been installed.

Rajesh Khatri, Vice President, Operations, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, informed that to meet the Net Zero Emission target, Tata Motors has been working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

With a new deal with Tata Power to build a 7 MWp Roof Top Solar Factory at our Pune plant, they will get closer to our aim of using 100% renewable energy.

He said they will become India's largest onsite solar installation after commissioning this capacity.

Khatri added that Tata Motors' Pune facility, India's largest on-site solar project is a monument to their common objective of being green in their companies.

The project solidifies Tata Power's position as one of India's leading renewable energy companies, providing significant value to its partners via project execution and technical expertise.

In the fiscal year (FY) 2022, Tata Motors generated 92.39 million kWh of renewable electricity, accounting for over 19.4% of total power consumption.

It now plans to pursue renewable energy with more rigour to meet its 2030 objective of acquiring 100% renewable energy.
