SAIL to shortlist 4 cos for coal mine project

Four companies may be short-listed by Steel Authority of India (SAIL) for the development and operation of a 4mn tonne open-cast coking coal mine with inbuilt coal beneficiation plant at the Tasra block in Jharkhand. While SAIL had initiated some small-scale mining activities in the block, implementation of the 4-mn tonne captive mining project would have substantial long-run cost implication on the public sector steel major, which is currently importing 70 per cent of its annual coking coal requirement of around 15 mn tonne.
