Coimbatore railway station to get escalator facility soon

The new second sub-way at Coimbatore railway station will be provided with escalator facility for the passengers, said the Railways. The sub-way with the escalator will be ready by this month-end. According to Railway officials, higher priority is given to A-1 category railway stations in India for the provision of escalators and Coimbatore railway station comes under this category.

Passengers have been demanding since a long time for the second sub-way with escalator facility at the city railway sation.

Member of Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee R Raveendran said that the railways had already placed an order for establishing the escalators. He said the second subway and escalator facilities to be commissioned this month as promised. It has missed many deadlines due to various reasons.

Of the total railway budget layout of Rs.914cr under Passenger Amenities during 2013-14, Rs 46cr was allotted towards provision of escalators for the current year in selected railway stations in India, according to a railway ministry communique.
