Long pending SRA project of CoEP to get nod from SRA, Pune civic body

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) are set to approve the delayed SRA project of the College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) in the Patil Estate slum area.

The PMC committee approved a proposal to hand over plot number 66 to the CoEP for development under the SRA scheme, with a total area of 2,612.29 square metres. In 1987, the CoEP acquired the five-acre plot.

It was approved by the state education department about two years ago.

The institute recently inquired about a parcel of land owned by the PMC.

Professor Bhalchandra Birajdar of the CoEP told the media that the CoEP gave the PMC land to build a bridge years ago. They did not ask for anything in return, he claimed.

The remaining five acres of land are adjacent to PMC land totalling 30 guntas. They demanded the land from the PMC in exchange for the land they had given them for the bridge construction.

Hemant Rasane, chairman of the PMC standing committee, said that the land transfer was approved at a recent meeting and that the decision of the general body is pending.

The topic was brought up during the general body meeting, which was held online. However, due to a technical issue, it was not possible to discuss it.

The CoEP has developed a strategy, hired a survey consultant, and completed the steps required for the final approval of SRA.

Slum-dwellers in Maharashtra receive a 300 sq ft flat throughout the SRA scheme. However, according to Pune norms, the unit area should be around 275 sq ft.

The Patil Estate residents demanded a 300 sq ft area for every unit. However, since this was not possible, they applied to the SRA office for a change in the flat area to 300 sq ft, according to Birajdar.
