Master plan of three more cities up for approval in UP

Three further UP cities' master plans have been completed and submitted for final government approval. Kanpur, Azamgarh, and Hapur are the three cities where new emphasis has been placed on spatial planning, public health facilities, water supply, urban transportation, and socioeconomic development through the master plan 2031.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister who also oversees housing and urban planning, authorised the master plans for two cities last week (Ayodhya and Orai in Jalaun). These plans will guide future zoning, planning, and development guidelines through the year 2031.

According to guidelines issued by the Union government for AMRUT cities, 59 cities will be managed using a master plan based on a GIS (geographic information system) for the year 2031.

Additionally, the majority of the cities in UP's previous master plans had expired in 2011. According to officials, 16 of the 59 cities' master plans are now being finalised, while the rest ones are nearing completion.

"Two of the five plans that were already submitted to the government for final approval have been accepted. The last three can be chosen at any time. Within a month, we will provide 38 additional master plans to the government "said a senior housing department officer.

The local development authority in Kanpur has been forced by the city's growth scenario to increase the city's urban boundaries from 328 sqkm to 581 sqkm over the course of the next ten years. In Chakeri, a new commercial district centre has been suggested, while Bithoor will concentrate on developing tourism. According to officials, the 2031 master plan reserves land usage in the Chakeri area for industrial activity.

A 300-acre aerotropolis will be part of a new commercial city that will be built on 150 hectares of land next to the Chakeri airport by the local development authority. The knowledge city (institutions for education, research, and development), electric vehicle parks, medicity (health and wellness), and the mega MSME cluster have all been designated for development by the Kanpur Development Authority.

Development authorities in charge of the twin cities of Azamgarh and Hapur-Pilakhua have pushed for increased mixed utilisation of the land.

"People have purchased land beyond the city limits and built homes there as the population has grown over time. However, the land use has not yet been altered. In Azamgarh and Hapur, numerous court cases involving requests for changes to land use are still waiting "a senior officer remarked.

"Join industry leaders at RAHSTA Expo, India's premier platform for roads, highways and traffic infrastructure. Register now to explore innovations, network with experts and shape the future of mobility."
