Holcim Foundation Reveals 2025 Sustainability Award Winners

The Holcim Foundation has announced the 20 winners of its 2025 Awards, honouring pioneering projects that redefine sustainability in the built environment. Spanning diverse geographies — from Bhutan to Medellín — the winning entries exemplify how design and engineering can create resilient communities, restore ecosystems, and set new industry benchmarks for responsible construction.

“These outstanding projects use the right materials in the right places, engage communities from the very beginning, and treat nature as an essential design partner,” said Laura Viscovich, Executive Director of the Holcim Foundation.

Recognising excellence across all scales and contexts, the 2025 Awards celebrate projects ranging from an intimate, semi-permanent school in a Kenyan forest to large-scale urban regeneration initiatives in global cities such as Madrid, Dhaka, and Shenzhen.

Emerging themes among the winners include:

  • Resilient infrastructure that collaborates with natural systems
  • Design as a catalyst for healing and social inclusion
  • Low-carbon, circular approaches that minimise waste and resource use

Together, these projects illustrate the transformative potential of sustainable design to shape a more equitable and regenerative future.
