Oberoi Realty Signs Deal To Redevelop Two Societies On Peddar Road

Oberoi Realty has signed a development agreement to redevelop two housing societies on Peddar Road in South Mumbai. The company said the arrangement will involve phased redevelopment of existing buildings and the provision of modern facilities for residents. The project is expected to align with municipal regulations and development norms in the city.

Under the terms of the agreement the developer will engage with society committees and residents to finalise layouts and timelines. The plan will reportedly prioritise structural safety, improved common areas and enhanced utility services while aiming to minimise disruption during construction. Authorities will be approached for requisite clearances and environmental assessments before major works commence.

The redevelopment is positioned as part of a broader trend of urban renewal in established Mumbai neighbourhoods where ageing stock is replaced with contemporary housing solutions. Oberoi Realty indicated that redevelopment may offer residents options for reconfigured apartments and access to improved amenities including landscaped open spaces and upgraded safety systems. The company will also be required to observe all statutory obligations relating to licences and beneficiary entitlements under applicable housing laws.

Oberoi Realty expects the redevelopment to contribute to the long term supply of quality housing in the southern precinct of the city and to offer a template for negotiated redevelopment projects elsewhere. The developer said it will coordinate with local authorities and residents to finalise implementation details and to address concerns on phasing and compensation. The agreement represents another instance of private sector participation in inner city renewal.

Stakeholder engagement will include consultations to discuss timelines, safety measures and relocation arrangements where necessary. The redevelopment is likely to generate construction related employment and short term economic activity in the locality while aiming to maintain neighbourhood character. The company indicated that sustainability considerations will be integrated into design and operations as per prevailing norms.
