UP Gets Rs 120 Billion for Urban Housing Scheme

In a significant boost to its affordable housing drive, the Uttar Pradesh government has secured financial approval of Rs 120.31 billion under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Mission 2.0 to provide permanent (pucca) homes to the urban poor.
According to an official statement issued on Saturday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed authorities to ensure transparency and quality in construction. To this end, geo-tagging and photographic documentation of every house will be mandatory, enabling real-time monitoring throughout the construction process.
All housing units under the scheme will incorporate disaster-resilient features to withstand earthquakes, floods, and other natural calamities, integrating safety as a core element of the mission.
The cost of each unit will be shared between the central and state governments in a 60:40 ratio, with each eligible beneficiary receiving Rs 2.5 lakh in financial assistance to construct their home.
Launched on 1 September 2024, PMAY (Urban) Mission 2.0 seeks to provide all urban families with pucca houses by the designated deadline. The scheme is being closely monitored at both the state and district levels to ensure timely completion and high construction standards.
Besides improving living conditions, the initiative supports integrated urban development across the state, offering greater social security to underprivileged communities.
