Hind Rectifiers Begins Copper Conductor Production for Transformers

Mumbai, November 3, 2025 — Hind Rectifiers a leading manufacturer of power semiconductors, power electronic equipment and railway transportation systems, has commenced commercial production of highly specialised copper conductors at its Sinnar plant.

The milestone marks the successful completion of the company’s backward integration project aimed at in-house production of Continuously Transposed Conductors (CTC), Enamelled Paper Insulated Copper Conductors (EPICC) and Paper Insulated Copper Conductors (PICC) — critical raw materials used in traction transformer manufacturing.

The project, developed with a total investment of about Rs 560 million funded through a mix of term loans and internal accruals, will help Hind Rectifiers enhance operational efficiency by streamlining its supply chain and reducing dependency on external vendors. The initiative is also expected to ensure timely supply of transformers to customers and prevent delays that previously resulted in penalties from Indian Railways.

In addition to strengthening supply reliability, the new copper conductor facility is designed to optimise costs, improve margins, and enhance long-term business sustainability and competitiveness.

Commenting on the development, Suramya Nevatia, Chairman and Managing Director, Hind Rectifiers, said, “This backward integration creates a new vertical for us. These specialised copper conductors are fast-moving products with significant export potential. With this step, we are better positioned to meet the growing demand of not only our traction transformers but also the transformer industry at large. Our copper facility will enable us to improve profitability, increase revenue, and deliver greater value to our customers and stakeholders.”
