Elematic, Vakio Jindal Build Partner to Boost Precast Construction

Elematic Group and Vakio Jindal Build have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the adoption of industrialised construction methods in India. The collaboration aims to address rising demand for housing, infrastructure and urban development through advanced precast concrete technology, prefabrication and automated construction processes.

The partnership combines Elematic's expertise in precast technology, automation and industrial production with Vakio Jindal Build's capabilities in precast design and prefabricated building solutions, including bathroom pods. The companies intend to improve construction productivity, quality and scalability while addressing challenges such as rising costs, skilled labour shortages and project delays.

India's construction market is estimated at approximately $700 billion, growing at 7–8 per cent annually. However, precast construction accounts for only around 1 per cent of the market's value, indicating considerable potential for expansion. According to the companies, the precast segment is projected to grow by approximately 9–12 per cent, driven by infrastructure, residential and industrial developments.

Teppo Voutilainen, CEO, Elematic Group, said, ""It is hard to estimate the construction market in India, but the latest figures show that India is a ~USD 700bn construction market growing around 7–8% annually; precast represents only ~1% of construction value today, with the stronger market estimates indicating ~9–12% growth, led by infrastructure, residential and industrial applications. In this situation, India has a unique opportunity to rethink how construction is delivered. To achieve the scale, speed and quality required for the country's growth ambitions, we need to move beyond traditional construction methods and embrace a more industrialised approach.""

He added, ""This starts at the design stage. Buildings must be designed for precast and repeatable production processes, not adapted afterwards. At the same time, technology alone is not enough. Developing the skills and capabilities of designers, engineers, production teams and project stakeholders is equally critical. Industrialised construction succeeds when people, processes and technology evolve together.""

Jussi Aho, Chairman of the Board, Vakio Global, said, ""Industrialized construction requires a mindset shift where construction is approached as a repeatable process instead of a series of individual projects. Through our partnership with Elematic, we are bringing together complementary expertise to help advance this transition in India. We believe the combination of smart design, manufacturing excellence and skilled people will be critical to delivering the scale of housing and infrastructure that India's future demands.""

Ajay Agarwal, EVP, Construction Solutions Business, Jindal Steel, said, ""India’s construction sector needs solutions that can deliver greater speed, quality and productivity at scale. Our partnership with Elematic and Vakio Global brings together complementary expertise in precast technology, industrialised design and manufacturing to help address these challenges. By combining global experience with an understanding of India’s evolving construction needs, we aim to support a more efficient and scalable approach to building.""

Under the partnership, the companies will support customers in integrating design, factory-based production and on-site assembly while introducing international best practices suited to Indian construction requirements.

India is among Elematic's fastest-growing markets, supported by its manufacturing facilities in Alwar, Rajasthan, and Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh. Recent investments in these operations have further strengthened its capacity to serve the domestic market and support the transition towards modern, industrialised construction techniques.
