Phase 1 of Ola e-scooter factory almost completed: Bhavish Aggarwal

On Saturday, Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO, Ola Group, told the media that the first phase of Ola's electric scooter factory is nearing completion, and the company anticipates to start rolling out vehicles soon.

In 2020, Ola had declared a Rs 2,400 crore investment for establishing its first electric scooter factory in Tamil Nadu.

After completion, the factory is expected to be the world's largest scooter manufacturing facility that will initially have a yearly production capacity of 2 million units.

While the company is yet to reveal the pricing and specifications of its e-scooter, Ola has said that it is working on establishing a 'Hypercharger Network' to cover one lakh charging points across 400 cities.

Earlier, Aggarwal had said that the e-scooter was likely to be launched in India in July this year and that Ola Electric would look at taking the vehicle to international markets, comprising countries like Italy, Germany and France in this fiscal as well.

The launch of the electric scooter is in order with Ola's global vision of moving mobility into a more accessible, sustainable, and connected future.

Aggarwal had also embraced the recent announcement of the Gujarat State Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021, which aims to encourage the deployment of electric vehicles in the state.

In 2020, Ola Electric had also received Amsterdam-based Etergo BV for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition of Etergo was aimed at further supporting its engineering and design capabilities in the electric mobility space.
