PLI scheme needs expansion for drone development

With an objective of making India a worldwide drone centre, the government must build an ecosystem and expand the production-linked incentive (PLI) programme., as per a Nexgen Exhibitions report. Based on estimates from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the drone manufacturing sector in India is projected to grow from Rs 0.6 billion in 2020?21 to Rs 9 billion by 2025. Additionally, it stated that between 2024 and 2030, the Indian drone industry is anticipated to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.15%.India has the potential to become the world's drone hub by 2030 via innovation and portfolio development. The analysis made clear that strengthening the domestic drone ecosystem is essential to achieving India's objectives. It said that promoting the Made in India programme, expanding the PLI scheme, and government procurement are further significant drivers.

Drone applications are already well-established in the domains of COVID management, rescue and disaster management, and border surveillance. The research emphasised that the drone services business would soon surpass other comparable industries in terms of scope and operations in areas like traffic control, data processing, and logistics.

The research demonstrated that attaining India's goals requires bolstering the country's drone ecosystem. It stated that other important drivers are government procurement, the expansion of the PLI plan, and the promotion of the Made in India project.

The fields of border monitoring, rescue and disaster management, and COVID management have already seen significant success with drone applications.
