World Economic Forum cancels annual meeting 2021 due to Covid-19

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced the cancellation of its annual meeting of 2021.

The meeting was already postponed twice with two changes in the location. The next annual meeting of WEF will take place in the first half of 2022. The venue and date would be decided after assessing the summer situation this year as said by the Geneva-based organisation that has been hosting an annual congregation from across the globe in the Swiss ski resort town of Davos for 50 years.

This year, the meeting at Davos was scheduled for January 2021, but the location was shifted to Switzerland, Lucerne, and later to Singapore in August 2021. The last time the meeting took place outside Davos, it was held in New York City in 2002.

This year when the annual meeting was scheduled for January, WEF hosted an online meeting in which it described itself as an international organisation for public-private cooperation. A large number of global leaders attended the meeting, just like the physical annual meetings each year.

In an advisory, the World Economic Forum (WEF) has said that it has been preparing for a special annual meeting in Singapore that will take place in just three months from now. The WEF has also shown concern about the rising Covid-19 cases every day.

The WEF has said that it will continue to involve with its increasing partners in several work streams addressing the main issues of the global agenda through public-private cooperation.
