Renault-Nissan’s Chennai plant to be ready by Q1 2010
Nissan Motors and Renault SA will be opening their factory in Chennai by the end of first quarter of 2010. However, they have currently suspended the second phase in order to watch the decline in the global automotive market.
Nissan-Renault's new factory at Chennai is expected to have an annual capacity of 400,000 cars. On the alliance of Nissan with Bajaj Motors, the project for developing a low-cost car is still being developed. Nissan-Renualt currently has several joint ventures in the country - three with Ashok Leyland to design and make commercial vehicles and engines, besides alliances with Mahindra & Mahindra and Bajaj Auto for manufacturing cars.
