ACC Cement Plant Meets Green Norms, Permanent Sprinklers Advised

The ACC Ltd Cement Plant at Barmana in Himachal Pradesh, operated by the Adani Group, has been found compliant with key environmental norms, according to a supplementary report submitted by a joint committee to the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The report follows an earlier inspection prompted by a local complaint.

The committee—comprising members from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB), and the Bilaspur district administration—confirmed that ambient air quality levels for PM??, SOx, and NOx were within prescribed limits across six locations between 24 and 26 March 2025.

However, the committee recommended installing permanent sprinklers to replace current intermittent water spraying methods to better manage dust along a 500-metre stretch frequently used by trucks.

The joint panel was originally formed after Kashmir Singh of Khetad village lodged a complaint in September 2024, citing poor dust control and environmental hazards near the cement plant.

In response to the committee's previous observations, ACC Ltd implemented several measures, including installing fog guns, expanding green cover, and improving pollution control systems at emission sources. Emissions from all major stacks were reported to be within limits.
