APERC Orders Rs 9.2 Billion Refund To Power Consumers

The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has ordered state power distribution companies to refund Rs 9.2 billion to consumers under its Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) True-Up order for FY25.
The refunds will be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments starting November 2025 at Rs 0.13 per unit of electricity. According to APERC, DISCOMs had collected Rs 27.9 billion during 2024-25 at 40 paise per unit monthly. After accounting for this collection, the net refundable amount was calculated at Rs 9.23 billion for FY25.
Political reactions followed the order. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) claimed the state’s power sector had achieved a “turnaround” under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, citing savings of Rs 8.95 billion.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief YS Sharmila criticised the government, alleging that claims of consumer relief were misleading. She stated that during 15 months of NDA coalition rule, a true-up burden of Rs 157.8 billion was imposed on consumers.
