Bajel Projects Wins Rs. 2 bn Mumbai GIS Substation Order

Bajel Projects has secured a major order valued at more than Rs. 2 bn from Tata Power for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of 400 kV Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) in Mumbai. The order, which includes GST under the company’s project classification policy, has been awarded in the ordinary course of business.

The project covers 400 kV GIS Receiving Substations (RSS) at Dharavi and Ghatkopar, along with associated electrical systems, substation automation, communication infrastructure, Balance of Plant equipment and civil works. Bajel Projects will execute the substation works under a domestic EPC contract.

The purchase order has a completion period of 18 months from its date of issuance. The company has classified the contract as a major order, placing it within the Rs. 2 bn to Rs. 3 bn project band under its internal classification framework.

Bajel Projects said the infrastructure would support the strengthening of Mumbai’s power transmission network and improve power reliability in the densely populated metropolitan region. The project is also expected to contribute to the city’s long-term electricity requirements through the deployment of GIS technology and associated transmission infrastructure.

The company disclosed that neither its promoters nor promoter-group or group companies have any interest in the awarding entity. It also said the contract would not constitute a related-party transaction. The order adds to Bajel Projects’ portfolio of transmission and distribution projects across India, where it provides EPC and manufacturing solutions for utilities and private infrastructure developers.

Bajel Projects operates in the Power Transmission and New Energies sectors and was formerly the EPC arm of Bajaj Electricals. The company said it continues to focus on project management and delivery capabilities for complex power infrastructure assignments in domestic and international markets.
