Bhagwan Birsa Munda Jodaraste Scheme links tribal villages in Maha

The Maharashtra government has taken a momentous stride towards bolstering connectivity and ameliorating the lives of tribal communities within the state. The Bhagwan Birsa Munda Jodaraste Scheme aims to establish a link between all tribal villages in 17 districts of Maharashtra and the main road network, effectively tackling the hurdles faced by these communities in accessing crucial services. This endeavour, projected to cost around Rs 50 billion, will encompass the construction of approximately 6,838 kilometres of roads.

Project Overview

The Bhagwan Birsa Munda Jodaraste Scheme, a brainchild of the Maharashtra government, is devised to interconnect tribal villages with primary roadways, fostering improved accessibility and enhanced living conditions. The scheme materialised following an announcement in the Budget Session by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with an emphasis on establishing perennial roads to connect tribal padas (settlements).

On the execution and implementation part, spearheaded by the Tribal Development Department, the scheme's execution will be tailored to the unique needs of tribal communities. The construction of these roads will be undertaken by the Public Works Department, assuring a focus on quality and durability. A dedicated committee will oversee the development and progression of these roadways, thereby enhancing coordination and efficient implementation.

At its core, the scheme endeavours to bridge tribal sub-plan areas with primary health centres and ashramshalas (residential schools) through the establishment of main roads. By closing the connectivity gap, the scheme strives to surmount challenges in providing essential amenities to tribal populations.

The Bhagwan Birsa Munda Jodaraste Scheme is poised to bring about transformative shifts in the livelihoods of tribal communities by simplifying their access to fundamental services. Enhanced connectivity will augment accessibility to healthcare, educational prospects, and overall socio-economic advancement.
