CBIC Extends Export Incentives to Postal Shipments

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has recently extended export-related incentives to goods exported through the postal route in electronic form, effective from 15 January 2026. The benefits cover Duty Drawback, Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) and Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL).

The measure aims to provide a level playing field for exporters using postal channels and strengthen the cross-border e-commerce ecosystem. It is expected to significantly improve the competitiveness of MSME exporters, particularly those based in smaller towns and remote regions, while giving a boost to postal exports.

To operationalise the move, CBIC has amended the Postal Export (Electronic Declaration and Processing) Regulations, 2022, enabling eligible exporters to claim incentives on postal shipments. Supporting notifications and circulars outlining the operational framework were issued in mid-January 2026.

The decision builds on a series of digital and policy reforms undertaken to promote e-commerce exports, including provisions under the Foreign Trade Policy 2023 and the expansion of Dak Niryat Kendras across the country. The initiative marks another step towards simplifying export procedures, reducing costs and promoting inclusive growth in India’s evolving global e-commerce landscape.
