CII GreenCo showcases Andhra Pradesh incentives to boost industrial sustainability

Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, March 25, 2026: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Green Business Centre, in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), hosted an industry session at Sri City to promote the adoption of GreenCo and IGBC green rating systems across the state, highlighting the Andhra Pradesh Government’s incentive framework aimed at accelerating sustainable industrial development.

The session focused on strengthening voluntary adoption of globally benchmarked green standards as Andhra Pradesh continues to expand its industrial and infrastructure base.

Dr. P. Krishnaiah, I.A.S (Retd.), Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board, said, “The CII GreenCo Rating framework is enabling manufacturing industries to enhance environmental performance across key areas such as energy, water, waste, and circularity. With wider adoption of such green frameworks, Sri City has the potential to emerge as a model green and circular industrial ecosystem.”

The initiative is part of a broader collaboration between APPCB and CII to align industrial growth with resource efficiency and low-carbon development. Officials said the effort is designed to create an ecosystem that supports industries and developers in moving beyond compliance towards measurable sustainability performance.

Ravindra Sannareddy, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Sri City (P) Ltd., said, “Sri City, as the first industrial park to achieve IGBC Gold rating, has consistently demonstrated its commitment to sustainability. Going forward, widespread adoption of the CII GreenCo Rating by industries within Sri City can position it as a benchmark green-rated industrial park for the nation.”

A key highlight of the session was the Andhra Pradesh Government’s incentive package for industries adopting GreenCo and IGBC standards. Under the framework, industries achieving GreenCo ratings will be eligible for automatic renewal and a one-year extension of Consent to Operate (CTO), subject to compliance performance, reducing regulatory uncertainty while rewarding environmentally responsible operations.

GreenCo-rated companies will also receive formal recognition through state-level award platforms and will be given enhanced visibility through official APPCB and CII platforms. In addition, the policy provides preferential consideration for products manufactured by GreenCo-rated units in government procurement, integrating sustainability into public purchasing.

Nihal Kaul, Chairman, GreenCo South AP Forum, said, “The adoption of the GreenCo Rating empowers industries to move beyond compliance and embrace performance-driven sustainability. I urge industries in the South AP cluster to actively participate and collectively drive this joint initiative of APPCB and CII GreenCo.”

CII said the GreenCo rating system is among the world’s most comprehensive frameworks for assessing industrial environmental performance and is expected to help drive improvements in energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, circularity, and carbon reduction.

The session concluded with a call for industries and stakeholders to leverage the state’s incentive framework, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a national benchmark for sustainable industrialisation through policy support and industry collaboration.
