Commerce Ministry Seeks Input on SEZ Reform Proposals

The Commerce Ministry has invited inputs from stakeholders on proposed reforms for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in India. This initiative aims to revitalize SEZs, making them more attractive for investors and aligning them with current economic needs.

The Ministry's reform proposals focus on enhancing the operational efficiency of SEZs, improving their competitiveness, and ensuring they contribute more significantly to the national economy. Key areas of reform include simplifying administrative procedures, easing regulatory compliances, and offering more flexible land use policies.

Stakeholders, including industry bodies, SEZ developers, and business enterprises operating within SEZs, are encouraged to provide their feedback. The Ministry seeks to incorporate suggestions that will foster a more conducive business environment, attract foreign investments, and boost exports.

One of the significant aspects of the proposed reforms is the introduction of new incentives and support mechanisms to encourage investment in SEZs. These include tax benefits, streamlined approval processes, and enhanced infrastructure support. The aim is to create a more dynamic and investor-friendly ecosystem within SEZs.

The Ministry also plans to address issues related to existing SEZ policies that may be hindering growth. By engaging with stakeholders, the government hopes to identify and eliminate bottlenecks, ensuring SEZs can function more effectively and contribute to economic growth.

This call for inputs is part of a broader strategy to modernise India's SEZ framework, making it more responsive to global market trends and technological advancements.
