Cygni Energy, Indus Towers Sign MoU for 1.5 GWh BESS

Cygni Energy, an energy storage technology and manufacturing company, and Indus Towers, a telecom tower infrastructure firm, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on sourcing energy storage solutions for telecom infrastructure in India.

Under the proposed arrangement, the companies plan to establish battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing capacity of up to 1.5 GWh. The initiative is intended to address the changing energy requirements of telecom infrastructure, including the need for dependable power support at tower sites.

The MoU also provides for an evaluation of advanced battery technologies for telecom applications. The companies said the collaboration would focus on improving operational reliability, increasing energy efficiency and supporting more sustainable telecom operations.

Cygni Energy said the initiative would extend beyond the supply of batteries. Its plans include developing capacity of up to 2 GWh and building a product portfolio that can progress from current 100Ah solutions to higher-capacity 314Ah systems, as well as newer battery technologies.

The proposed manufacturing capacity under the collaboration is separate from the broader capacity expansion outlined by Cygni Energy. The arrangement is expected to support the development of storage solutions tailored to the requirements of telecom networks, where uninterrupted energy availability is important for maintaining connectivity.

The companies did not disclose the investment planned for the manufacturing capacity, the location of the proposed facilities or a timeline for commercial production. The agreement marks a move towards closer cooperation between a storage technology manufacturer and a major telecom tower infrastructure provider as India’s telecom networks continue to require more efficient energy management solutions.
