Cygni Opens 4.8 GWh Battery Gigafactory in Hyderabad

Hyderabad-based Cygni Energy has inaugurated its new 4.8 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) gigafactory at E-Mobility Valley in the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster, Maheshwaram. Built with an investment of approximately Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore), the facility will cater to the growing demand for EV battery packs and grid-scale storage systems.

Cygni’s new gigafactory features advanced automation and an initial manufacturing capacity of 4.8 GWh. The facility will produce 105 kWh liquid-cooled base modules using 314Ah cells, considered key components for global energy storage systems. The plant is designed with Poka-Yoke-enabled stations, end-to-end traceability, and quality systems aligned with global best practices.

To date, Cygni has delivered 500 MWh of batteries to the power and energy sector, and it currently has a 1 GWh order pipeline across BESS and electric mobility segments.

Venkat Rajaraman, Founder and CEO of Cygni, stated:

“This gigafactory reinforces our position in the energy storage space, with high-quality, scalable solutions across multiple applications. We’re positioned for significant domestic and international growth in the coming years.”

In Phase II, Cygni plans to expand capacity to 10.8 GWh at the same location with a total investment of Rs 2.5 billion (Rs 250 crore). The expansion will include:

  • Three additional automated 2 GWh lines
  • Container integration facilities
  • Creation of over 1,000 jobs (direct and indirect) in the next 24 months

Looking ahead, Cygni’s energy solutions will offer:

  • Modular and scalable BESS architectures
  • AI-based predictive analytics
  • Digital Twin-enabled real-time monitoring
  • Advanced energy management systems

Through a long-term collaboration with IIT Madras, Cygni is also exploring:

  • Next-gen cell architectures like Cell-to-Pack (CTP) and Cell-to-Chassis (CTC)
  • Sodium-ion batteries
  • Supercapacitor technologies
