Cygni Opens 4.8 GWh Battery Gigafactory in Hyderabad

Hyderabad-based Cygni Energy has inaugurated its new 4.8 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) gigafactory at E-Mobility Valley in the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster, Maheshwaram. Built with an investment of approximately Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore), the facility will cater to the growing demand for EV battery packs and grid-scale storage systems.

Cygni’s new gigafactory features advanced automation and an initial manufacturing capacity of 4.8 GWh. The facility will produce 105 kWh liquid-cooled base modules using 314Ah cells, considered key components for global energy storage systems. The plant is designed with Poka-Yoke-enabled stations, end-to-end traceability, and quality systems aligned with global best practices.

To date, Cygni has delivered 500 MWh of batteries to the power and energy sector, and it currently has a 1 GWh order pipeline across BESS and electric mobility segments.

Venkat Rajaraman, Founder and CEO of Cygni, stated:

In Phase II, Cygni plans to expand capacity to 10.8 GWh at the same location with a total investment of Rs 2.5 billion (Rs 250 crore). The expansion will include:

  • Three additional automated 2 GWh lines
  • Container integration facilities
  • Creation of over 1,000 jobs (direct and indirect) in the next 24 months

Looking ahead, Cygni’s energy solutions will offer:

  • Modular and scalable BESS architectures
  • AI-based predictive analytics
  • Digital Twin-enabled real-time monitoring
  • Advanced energy management systems

Through a long-term collaboration with IIT Madras, Cygni is also exploring:

  • Next-gen cell architectures like Cell-to-Pack (CTP) and Cell-to-Chassis (CTC)
  • Sodium-ion batteries
  • Supercapacitor technologies
