Dehradun Civic Body Registers Seven Bulk Waste Generators

The Dehradun Municipal Corporation organised a registration camp for bulk waste generators at its office premises on 24 October, following directions from the Supreme Court and instructions from the District Magistrate. The camp, which began at 11 am, focused on awareness, registration and compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.

Representatives of around 50 hotels, malls, banquet halls, banks and other commercial and institutional establishments from across Dehradun attended the camp. After officials examined the information and supporting documents submitted by participants, seven establishments were registered as bulk waste generators on the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) portal.

The municipal corporation’s Swachh Bharat Mission team explained the responsibilities of bulk waste generators under the regulatory framework. These include segregation of waste at source and appropriate arrangements for its collection, processing and disposal through scientific and systematic methods.

Officials also briefed participants on the statutory obligations applicable to the category, the registration process, documentation requirements and the eligibility criteria. Experts explained the operation of the CPCB portal and provided guidance on determining eligibility under the three prescribed criteria for classification as a bulk waste generator.

The corporation clarified that establishments submitting Self-Declaration Forms stating that they were not eligible for classification would be subject to physical inspections. Its expert team will verify whether the declarations match conditions at the premises and whether the establishments meet the prescribed criteria, with final categorisation and further action based on the inspection findings.

Municipal officials said the camp formed part of efforts to strengthen Dehradun’s solid waste management system and improve accountability among commercial and institutional establishments. The corporation is also pursuing implementation of the 2026 rules, with emphasis on source segregation, scientific processing and disposal, transparent compliance and improvements to the city’s sanitation system.
