DyCM Inspects Ongoing Road, Bridge Projects in Udhampur

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary inspected several ongoing infrastructure and development projects during a tour of Udhampur district on October 28. He reviewed work on the Public Works Department (PWD) road from Jakhani Naka Point via Lower Balli, being executed under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

Choudhary expressed concern over the slow pace of work on the road project and directed the executing agencies to accelerate construction. He set December 20, 2026, as the completion deadline and instructed the Superintending Engineer to monitor progress closely while ensuring compliance with prescribed quality standards.

The Deputy Chief Minister also directed the agencies to deploy sufficient manpower and machinery. He asked the Executive Engineer, PWD, to issue a show-cause notice to the contractor over the delayed progress and emphasised that additional resources and double-shift operations should be used wherever necessary.

During the inspection, Choudhary visited the construction site of the Salmay bridge on the Udhampur-Ghordi road. The project involves a 165-metre-span steel girder, double-lane motorable bridge over the Tawi river and is being constructed under NABARD. The agencies were instructed to speed up construction and complete the project within the approved schedule without compromising quality.

The Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer PWD Roads and Buildings, Chenab Zone, Batote, Ashok Kumar Khokhar; Superintending Engineer Shivangi Gupta; Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr Umesh Shan; and other officials. He later visited Government Girls Middle School, Sharda, where he reviewed staff attendance, teacher availability and infrastructure. He also visited Sharda Mata Temple and offered prayers for peace, prosperity and the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir.
