KKR to Build Pan-India Liquid Storage Platform with Cisternina

Global investment firm KKR will make a majority investment in Cisternina Logistics, an India-focused bulk liquid and gas storage and logistics company. The investment will support Cisternina’s proposed acquisition of the liquid storage terminal and rail business of Ganesh Benzoplast, which will serve as the platform’s anchor asset. KKR did not disclose the investment amount.

Cisternina, established in 2024, plans to use the acquired business as a base for expanding storage and logistics operations across India. Its growth strategy includes further acquisitions and the development of new infrastructure, with services aimed at customers in the energy, chemicals, bulk liquids and edible oil sectors.

The Ganesh Benzoplast business operates one of India’s leading privately owned tank farms. Established at Jawaharlal Nehru Port in the early 1990s, it has approximately 500,000 kilolitres of operating and under-construction storage capacity across strategic ports, including Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Cochin and Goa.

KKR said India’s coastal infrastructure handles approximately 95 per cent of the country’s external trade by volume. Demand across key bulk-liquid categories is projected to grow over the next decade, supporting the need for additional liquid storage and logistics infrastructure. The market remains fragmented, with relatively few scaled, professionally managed operators offering a multi-location network.

Cisternina plans to expand through acquisitions, brownfield expansion and greenfield development, while strengthening management capabilities, governance, operating systems and safety standards. KKR is making the investment through its Asia-Pacific infrastructure strategy. India is a key market for the firm’s infrastructure business, whose experience includes logistics, transportation, renewable energy and power transmission.

"Agentic AI set to transform supply chain decision-making."

Interview with: Lalit Das, Founder & CEO, Agentra AIWhy the next phase of supply chain technology will be about AI that acts, not just advises?Supply chains no longer have a visibility problem. They have a decision-latency problem. It takes about 8.7 hours to detect a disruption and more than 40 more to understand its impact, all before anyone acts. Meanwhile, disruption costs the global economy an estimated $184 billion a year.Enterprises already own excellent systems of record. What they lack is a system of action. Copilots don't fix that, they just give faster answers about a broken pro..
