MahaGenco REL Seeks Buyers For Green Hydrogen And Ammonia

MahaGenco Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited, has invited expressions of interest from potential buyers for the purchase of green hydrogen and green ammonia from its upcoming production facility at Uran in Raigad district. The EOI, numbered MREL/2026-27/GH2 Offtaker/EOI/06, was issued on 29 July 2026 and marks a step towards building a market for green hydrogen in the state.

The proposed facility will be developed in phases. In the first phase the plant is expected to produce around two kilotons per annum (kTPA) of green hydrogen and green ammonia, with capacity planned to increase gradually to about 50 kTPA in later stages. The project will also produce industrial-grade oxygen as a by-product for industrial applications.

Products will be supplied on an Ex-Works basis from the Uran plant, which places responsibility for transportation on buyers after collection. MahaGenco REL has specified a minimum offtake requirement of 200 tonnes per annum (tonne (t)), and applicants must meet this threshold.

The company has identified priority regions for distribution because of proximity to the production site, including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust at Nhava Sheva, Trombay, Taloja MIDC, the Trans Thane Creek industrial area including Rabale and Turbhe, Patalganga, the Dombivli?Kalyan cluster, and the Thal?Mahad?Roha industrial belt. Organisations located outside these regions are also encouraged to participate in the EOI process.

Eligible participants span petroleum refineries, fertiliser manufacturers, steel producers, city gas distribution companies, industrial gas suppliers, speciality chemical makers, mobility and fuel cell operators, registered commercial traders and consignment agents, all of which the company seeks for long-term commercial partnerships. The initiative is intended to support the growth of India’s green hydrogen economy and to align with the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Maharashtra State Green Hydrogen Policy by promoting low carbon fuels and helping industries reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
