Maharashtra Govt Starts Online Registration for Construction Workers

The Maharashtra government has introduced an online registration system to streamline the registration process for construction workers. While workers can register from any location, biometric verification and document validation must be completed at designated district or taluka facility centres. This initiative has been implemented across the state to ensure a more efficient registration process.

To support this transition, 366 Taluka Suvidha Kendras have been set up, allowing workers to schedule verification visits at their convenience. Each center is capable of processing up to 150 applications per day, optimising the system for registration and reducing delays.

The registration and benefit distribution process is now managed through the Integrated Welfare Board Computer System (IWBMS), an online platform designed to handle worker registration, renewal, and welfare benefits. Previously, these services were only available at District Centres. However, following a directive from the Central Government, the state has expanded the system to include taluka-level centres, making the process more accessible.

Since the Suvidha Kendras began operations on November 8, 2024, a total of 5,12,581 applications have been processed online. The high demand at these centres has led to large crowds, causing inconvenience to workers and potential wage loss. To address these challenges, the Labour Department has introduced revised guidelines aimed at improving efficiency and transparency.

To expedite benefit distribution, delayed processing dates at District Facilitation Centres will be cancelled, with earlier appointments assigned at the taluka level. An additional taluka building will also be designated as a worker facilitation centre in areas where district headquarters are located.

At District Facilitation Centers, five employees will be assigned specific roles: three will serve as data entry operators, while two will focus on updating workers' records. A coordination cell has been established at the board level to ensure all pending applications are processed by March 31, 2025.
