During his 90-minute Independence Day address from the Red Fort in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in returning to power in 2024 while unveiling a series of development initiatives. The measures include the ₹150 billion Vishwakarma Yojana for skilled workers in traditional crafts, an urban housing plan offering interest rate relief for the poor, and a scheme with women self-help groups to create 20 million 'Lakhpati Didis in villages. The Prime Minister disclosed plans to support skilled individuals in traditional crafts through the Vishwakarma Yojana, focusing on the Other Backward Class (OBC) community. He emphasized that weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, and similar professions will benefit from this scheme, with an initial allocation of ₹130-150 billion.
