Mussoorie to Get Direct Delhi Link; 2,614 Houses to be Demolished

Mussoorie, known as the 'Queen of the Hills' on India's tourism map, is expected to become much more accessible from Delhi and other parts of the country in the near future. An upcoming elevated road project along the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway aims to reduce traffic congestion by allowing vehicles to reach Mussoorie directly. This development is also expected to ease traffic problems for residents of Dehradun city.

Banshidhar Tiwari, Vice-Chairman of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), informed the newspaper that land acquisition would take place in 26 localities to construct the 26-kilometer-long elevated road in Dehradun. He explained that this would involve the demolition of 2,614 houses situated along the banks of the Rispana and Bindal rivers.

Officials involved with the project anticipate that travel time will be significantly reduced. They stated that once the project becomes operational, tourists traveling from Delhi to Mussoorie will be able to reach their destination within four hours by their own vehicle.

The elevated road, with an estimated cost of Rs 61 billion, requires land acquisition for which property owners will be compensated. However, according to government sources, the state government has not yet prepared any proposal to provide land-for-land compensation to the affected property owners.

The district administration believes that only monetary compensation will likely be offered to property owners for the land acquisition. Sources indicated that the administration is operating on the assumption that affected individuals will receive financial compensation, particularly because the proposed land bank has not been inspected and no progress has been made toward establishing a new one.
