The National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued safety guidelines for women using app-based cabs, autos, bike taxis and other online transport services. The recommendations address driver and vehicle verification, route changes, harassment, unsafe drop-offs and delays in emergency assistance. The NCW has asked state authorities to improve coordination among the police, transport officials and app-based companies so complaints can be addressed quickly. Companies have been advised to verify drivers and vehicles properly and allow women to cancel rides without penalty when the driver or vehicle does not match the details shown on the app. The guidelines also recommend background verification and police checks for drivers, along with regular training on women's safety. For late-night journeys, they call for stronger verification procedures, ride-detail sharing with trusted contacts, safe-drop options and round-the-clock emergency assistance. Apps have been advised to alert the company and passenger if a driver takes an unusual route or remains stationary for a prolonged period. Passengers should also have easy access to an SOS button, while journey records should be securely preserved to support investigations. The NCW has further stressed the need for safe drop-offs, additional assistance for senior women and prompt action on complaints. Cases requiring police intervention should be forwarded without delay. Separately, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected the Sakhi One Stop Centre at Lok Nayak Hospital and directed officials to submit monthly reports on cases, police reports, first information reports, victim support and action against accused persons. Gupta also directed officials to protect confidentiality in cases involving girls under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and regularly monitor FIRs, arrests and court proceedings. She instructed officials to record and follow up on cases promptly, and to refer any difficulties in delivering justice to senior police officers for immediate resolution.
