Piyush Goyal Chairs Meet with Export Councils on Trade Opportunities

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal chaired a high-level meeting with Export Promotion Councils and Industry Bodies in New Delhi to discuss the emerging global trade scenario and explore opportunities for Indian exporters amid dynamic international developments.

India’s Export Growth Amid Challenges The Minister commended the industry for achieving a record export figure of over USD 820 billion in FY 2024–25, registering a 6% year-on-year growth. Despite significant global headwinds—such as the Red Sea crisis, Israel-Hamas conflict, ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, and economic slowdowns in developed nations—Indian exporters have shown remarkable resilience and determination, he noted.

Bilateral Trade Agreement with the US Shri Goyal briefed attendees on ongoing discussions with the United States to formulate a mutually beneficial Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foresight, highlighting his early agreement to pursue a BTA during a meeting with President Trump in February 2025.

Guidance to Exporters Emphasising the government’s proactive approach, the Minister urged exporters to focus on emerging silver linings, rather than fear disruptions. He assured that while the BTA team is moving at speed, it is doing so with precision and national interest in mind, ensuring the final outcome benefits India holistically.

India as a Global Trade Partner Shri Goyal noted that with India’s trusted global image, predictable policies, and business-friendly environment, the nation is well-positioned to become a key hub in global supply chains, attracting large-scale manufacturing and creating new job opportunities.

Industry Feedback and Collaboration Export Promotion Councils across various sectors shared insights on the challenges faced and urged the government to continue supporting the industry through targeted policy measures. The meeting served as a collaborative platform for formulating responsive strategies in light of global economic shifts.

Attendees included senior officials from the Commerce Ministry, line ministries, industry bodies, and various Export Promotion Councils.
