REC Kicks Off Swachhata Pakhwada 2025

REC, a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power and a leading NBFC, today commenced Swachhata Pakhwada 2025, a fortnight-long cleanliness and awareness campaign to be observed from 16 May to 31 May 2025, across its offices in the country. The initiative aligns with the Government of India's overarching objective to promote hygiene, sustainable practices, and public awareness across the nation.

The event began with a solemn Swachhata Pledge, administered by Jitendra Srivastava, IAS, CMD, REC, to all employees. The CMD emphasized the importance of the Swachh Bharat Mission and highlighted India’s success in becoming Open Defecation Free (ODF). Drawing from national milestones, he inspired employees to continue championing cleanliness and environmental consciousness. CMD said, "Swachhata is not merely an act; it is a reflection of our values and our respect for community and nature. India's journey from open defecation to dignity through sanitation has been transformational. The success of Swachh Bharat Mission lies in the fact that it connected with people at the grassroot level and brought behavioural changes in people."

The inaugural ceremony featured an impactful awareness session by Ramveer Tanwar, popularly known as the Pondman of India, for his grassroots environmental activism. He sensitized employees about the nexus between cleanliness, water conservation, and public health.

Another motivating session was delivered by Jasmer Singh Chauhan, Sarpanch of Sultanpur Village, which won the Cleanest Village Award in Swachhata Survekshan Gramin 2023. His address shed light on community-level leadership and collective will.

A major highlight of the day was the unveiling of a “Waste to Art” installation – a CHARKHA, constructed entirely from 200 kg of recycled waste materials. The artwork, symbolizing self-reliance and sustainability, was unveiled by CMD along with senior officials.

Further underscoring its commitment to the environment, REC conducted a Tree Plantation Drive led by the CMD, Directors, and CVO within the campus to promote biodiversity and ecological balance.

A Health Camp was also organized for REC's housekeeping staff, where routine health checkups were conducted. Additionally, a facilitation session was arranged in collaboration with banks to inform the staff about various government welfare schemes and financial inclusion initiatives. Simultaneously, REC’s Regional Offices undertook the restoration of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) to scale up decentralized cleanliness efforts.
